Fear

Fear is a dangerous enemy, it can shut down the flow of love and other gifts that you have. It can oppress you and put bitterness, sorrow and hatred in your heart. God has blessed us with many things but fear is not one of them. The fear of man bringeth a snare: but whoso putteth his trust in the Lord shall be safe –

Proverbs 29:25 When you fear the world and the people in it you are essentially saying that the thing or person you fear is greater than God and his love for you. Remember you serve the most high God, he created the Universe and everything in it. There is nothing greater than him and he is personally protecting you. The only fear that is acceptable is the Fear of the Lord. It is not like the other worldly fears but it comes out of your love for God. You begin to hate evil and wicked things and keep away from them. You must cast out every fear to live victoriously as a Christian. “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.” –

Deuteronomy 31:6   The Lord will bless you with his Holy Spirit and help you overcome your fears provided you have the willingness to fight your fears. He does not like it when his children surrender to fear and let the world or demons dictate terms to them. When God leads you, he never lets you go alone, he comes with you and fights your battles as his own. Your victory is guaranteed when you are with God, you must trust him and start fighting your fears.

Real Life Inspiration There was a little girl who was tormented be irrational fears throughout her childhood. She would have thoughts like “What if my mother dies? What will I do?”, these thoughts would then grow and develop in her mind and she would spend hours thinking about this and crying. She believed in God but had no knowledge of his Word or how to approach him. These fears continued into her teenage. She took refuge in alcohol and partying, this ended up having the opposite effect. She started feeling dirty, ashamed and guilty and this pushed her away from God. She used to have anxiety attacks more frequently and each time she did she took refuge in strong drink. Later she realized that this was satan trying his best to keep her miserable and away from God. She then went on to get married and decided to dedicate her life to Jesus, strangely this is when the attacks became stronger. She started suffering from depression and spontaneous panic attacks. She started having even more irrational thoughts like “I am going mad, I will soon end up in a mental institution”. She soon became desperate and started pleading with God for help. She visited several doctors who prescribed medicines like Xanax and other antidepressants. She did not understand it at the time, here she was having dedicated her life to the King of Kings, The Lord of Lords and The Master Healer but at the same time she needed to visit doctors who had no clue what was going on with her. Satan continued playing tricks on her, he tormented her with thoughts like “God can heal, but you are not worthy to be healed!!”. She had thoughts saying there was a devil inside her, and she will never be healed. Even when she stepped outside her house on small errands or tried to drive her car she would have extreme panic attacks. She eventually learnt that the devil comes after you with all you have only when you dedicate yourself to Jesus. You become natural enemies with him, he hates children of God. God however was watching over her lovingly, he did not do a quick fix by saving her from one or two of these fears, instead he started slowly and steadily building her up from the inside. God used people like her husband, her sisters and a pious friend to slowly teach her about Himself. Soon she was taught the Word of God and learnt how to use the Bible when responding to her fear attacks. She became stronger gradually, and over a period of time she was able to resist the attacks. Looking back she is both happy and grateful for her victory over her fears and her understanding of its roots. She now has a deep appreciation for the Word of God.

Life Application Fear nothing in this world, except God Do not surrender to your fears, fight them Use the Word of God as a foundation and ask God to help you overcome
